Forgotten heroes (the rules)

Whilst there are a vast array of official Marvel and DC superhero and supervillain figures, both in metal and plastic, available AND various unofficial miniatures of both the big two’s characters and other heroes/villains, there will always be that little hole in your collection for a particular favourite or obscure character that they just don’t make. And that’s what Forgotten Heroes is about.

During the month of June, Jez** and I are inviting you to join us in creating/converting an existing figure into a costumed superhero or villain of your choice, from any source (be that Comic’s, TV, Film, Adverts, Toy lines, Novels basically anywhere you can think of). The rules, such as they are, are quite simple.

  1. The character you create must not yet have had an official or unofficial miniature made for it*.
  2. The figure must be in 28mm scale.
  3. The figure must be completed during the month of June.
  4. In your first post, you should provide a bit of detail on the character you’ve chosen and why.

And that’s it basically. It can be as simple as repainting a DC Heroclix Blue Beetle as Marvel’s Goldbug, to as elaborate as converting a GW Imperial Guard Commissar into Marshal Law.

As there are a vast number of costumed heroes and villains out there (the Leopard of Lime Street, the Private Eye, the Savage Dragon, Megamind, Mr Incredible, Thermoman, Green Cross man, the list goes on and on), the only question you have to ask yourself is this – Who will be your Forgotten Hero?

You can of course post up your results onto your own blog, and links to all the participants blogs will be posted here of course, you posting can also be posted here as well, or if you currently do not have a blog of your own can be sent to me via E-mail and I will post them here for the world (well the rest of us participants and anyone else who’s interested ) to see. You will also be able to comment on yours of any of the other posts shown here as well as the other participants own blogs.

We’re announcing it now, to give you time to gather your thoughts and the necessary figure ripe for conversion. It’s open to all, just let me know if you want to join in and I’ll make sure links to your blogs are posted on here whilst it’s going on.

Cheers Roger.

*In a slight change to the original rules, you can create a character who has had an official or unofficial figure made for them, as long as you don’t use the original figure to make YOUR version. This was requested by someone who wants to make a ‘proper’ version of the character, as the official figure was not very good.

  1. What a terrific idea for a challenge Jez, and a blog Roger. Really pumped for this and lots of ideas bubbling around in my head. I’m certainly strongly considering doing one per week – if I can – and would actually suggest we try and keep this blog going post-Challenge too, from time to time with additional ‘conversions’. For me currently I’m looking at some possibilities around Skull The Slayer (and his time-lost companions), G.I. Zombie, Kamandi and Ermin Meonstoke [one of my own creations: http://mooretoons.blogspot.co.uk/%5D. For those interested my wargaming blog link is: http://fantorical.blogspot.co.uk/

    1. Thanks Simon, I thought you might be first (as you were on my original blog). I’m looking at three figures at the moment myself, but I’ll keep them to myself at present as they are still subject to change. Welcome aboard.

      Cheers Roger.

      1. Cheers Roger. I certainly think its a great idea. Btw the link to my Comic Strip blog seems to have somehow had “/%5D” added to it? That won’t link to anything as a result 😮

  2. Thank you Simon for the compliment and massive kudos to Roger for setting this up. I will, of course, be involved and am pledging a very modest two figures initially. My original planned figure turned out to be a little more complex than I first thought, so he’s been shelved for the time being. Although a cheap bird-feeder may hold the solution…
As with Roger, I’m playing it close to the chest until June, but I am certain neither character has had a figure done of them. And whilst I may have suggested to Andy that he draw a bearded face on a pink football, I won’t be doing Ego the Living Planet

    1. Too right you’ll be taking part, it is your (rather good) idea after all. I hope you don’t mind me doing this I’m not trying to take over your idea, this is still definitely your idea.

I’m happy to play Watson to your Holmes, Robin to your Batman, Leonard to your Sheldon…well you get the idea.

A bird feeder?? you are a little tease aren’t you..

      Cheers Roger

      1. I don’t mind at all, Roger. I have a friend who wants to take part and is not a blogger, so this is ideal for him. Are you going to post a link to the shiny new blog on the usual forums, as I’ve not done this yet?
I shall be using my Devil Dinosaur conversion as my spokes-saur for this project, as he kind of started the whole thing off.
As for the bird feeder…well, it’s a potential option for a specific obscure Marvel villain. But that’s all I’m prepared to say at the moment. 😉

      2. Hi Jez, no I haven’t posted up this sites existence on the “usual suspects” yet, you are more than welcome to if you want, I can’t get to “Frothers” and though I’m a member of the “Lead adventures forum” I cant remember my log in so if you or someone else can hit those two that would be great.

        Cheers Roger.

  4. Hi Roger, I wish to take part in your “Forgotten Heroes” challenge and wish to register. My blog address is https://vampifansworldoftheundead.blogspot.co.uk/ and I’m Bryan Scott aka Vampifan. I’ll be converting at least three figures to submit for the challenge and most likely, all three will appear at once. I am very excited about this challenge and it couldn’t have come at a better time as I have just rediscovered my love of Heroclix.

    1. Hi Bryan, Oh yes I’m well aware of who you are, and welcome aboard. Really looking forward your you input with this and can we expect at least one scantily clad vampires in you submissions? or have you got enough of them yet (silly question you can’t have too many Vampi’s can you).

I’ll add you to the Blogroll, and best of luck.

      Cheers Roger.

  5. Vampirella IS going to be one of my submissions, but definitely not as she appeared in the dire Army of Darkness crossover. I’ll be showing Vampi as she’s never been seen before. Tease!
