“Forgotten Heroes 2017, here we go again” (Roger Webb)

Well here we go again, incredibly “Forgotten Heroes” is back for its second year and as with last year I thought I’d start with a little statement of intent as to what I hope to achieve over the next four weeks and what figures I’m going to be using as the basis of my “Forgotten Hero” conversions. Well first off (if you are reading this on my own blog rather than the FH site) the header at the top of the page should give you a bit of a “heads up” as to where my main two submissions for this year’s challenge come from, yes it’s “He-man and the masters of the Universe”. Regular readers of my blog will know that these are not my first “Masters” figures, in fact I already have ten more of these muscular chaps in my collection and these chaps were supposed to completed in March of this year (or March’sters of the Universe month, sic). But due to restrictions on my time and lethargy on my part to be honest, they just never got done. So I have decided to kill two birds with one stone and have shunted them down to this month instead (Masters of the June’iverse). Anyway the two characters I have chosen to recreate from this famous toy line in miniature are Beast-man and Jitsu, a couple of villain’s from “the evil forces of Skeletor!”.

To this end I have pulled out two more of the muscular “dolly” figures I bought from “Bronze age miniatures” a couple of years back (when Jez and I started the He-man project), and with the application of some “greenstuff” and some blunt instruments (the bluntest being me), I hope to have some fairly recognizable renditions of said characters by the thirtieth of June. If all goes according to plan (and it rarely does!!), I hope to have time to add another non “He-man” bonus figure to my tally. This very simple conversion of a character from one of my all-time favorite comic books, will also give me a possible “out” if it looks like I have no chance of finishing the two figures above, but more on that in a later post. Below I have listed all the other people taking part in this year’s challenge, please click on the inks below to visit their own blogs/ sites.

    1. Nice choice. I grew up on He-Man so I’m definitely interested to see what you manage to make.

I’ve started my own Forgotten Heroes attempt. I intend to do two – one being a 1950s comic character – and then this one…

It may not be suitable for this blog (I’ll let you decide), so I’ll simply provide the above link for people to view. If you do choose to add it to his blog, then by all means do so.

      1. I don’t have a problem with it Roy and I don’t see it being a problem with any of our other participants, in fact the old oriental stuff is rather popular at the moment, I’ll happily post it across to this site, if anyone complains I can always remove it later. I’ll also add you name to the Blogroll. Great that you could join us, and best of luck.

Sorry that your comment didn’t come straight up, I have to approve new commenters, you should be fine from now on though.

    2. Thanks Michael, Not sure why wordpress insists on putting your reply here, but…I’m afraid I’m not being particularly original this year, with my He-men, I did have a vague plan to do something else (well a couple of choices really), but after missing March, I thought I’d rather do these instead. Looking forward to what you come up with too. Good luck Sir.

      Cheers Roger.

  1. Cool man. Can’t wait to see them. I loved Jitsu! Actually I loved all the He-Man toys. When I moved to Australia from the UK when I was 7 I had one suitcase full of clothes and one full of my He-Man collection including snake moutntain, castle greyskull and Hordacs hang out place.

    1. Very cool, though I too was a He-man fan I actually only ever have on of the figures “Zodac” (I was a deprived child you know! 🙂 ). So in a way I think this is my way of making up for all the fun I missed out on as a kid, have you seen the other characters I’ve already done? If not you follow this link… https://rantingsfromunderthewargamestable.wordpress.com/category/fantasy/28mm-fantasy/masters-of-the-universe/

And all the relevant posts are there. One day I’d like to build a “Castle Greyskull” to go with them, but whether it’ll ever happen is another thing.

  2. What a multi-purpose post, Roget! It’s Forgotten Heroes, it’s He-Man and it’s kind of Oriental too. Well done on covering all the bases. I shall look forward to seeing how these progress.
