FORGOTTEN HEROES 2018 ROUNDUP (Dave Stone)

As Forgotten Heroes draws to a close for 2018, here is my last submission to the event.
Morrigunn
Almost forgot to show the painting of this lady robot, included a freehand fanged horse head on her thigh that the Night Maras gifted her while she trained with them.

Blackblood
We all have a colour that we dislike painting, and mine is green, which is the predominant colour of Blackblood, pleased with the overall look I managed to achieve.

Mek Quake
In Clint’s artwork he has Mek Quake as dirty and rusty, so once I’d got the silver shaded and highlighted, I stippled on Reikland fleshshade, and Agrax Earthshade to get the desired effect.

Nemesis
Although this model was started before the event I thought I’d show him as he’s now finished.

Group Shot
Here’s all the models together that I’ve finished so far

What The Future Holds
For anyone who knows the A.B.C. Warriors you will notice there are seven models left to build, here is a group shot of all the frames made to finish the project, some are a little further along than others. This has been a fun event to take part in, and have seen some fantastic entries, of some characters I’ve never heard of, and some I knew. Look forward to next years event and see what everyone comes up with.
Until next time have fun !
Cheers Dave

ABC Warriors update (Dave Stone)

Got two more models finished on the sculpting side for my project, first up is Blackblood, the guns took a while on this one and lots of little details.

Then I have a last minute model which you haven’t seen before, as Dai asked I thought why not try and get Mek Quake built, I’ve used guitar string to make some of the pipes, as they had no solid objects to work on.
One of the things I like about Clint’s artwork is the robots don’t always have the same details on both sides, this for a sculptor is great news as it adds more interest.

now just need to try and paint these in two days to add into my final entry, might be a very late post Saturday !
That’s all for this post, so until next time have fun !
Cheers Dave

Forgotten Heroes Continued (Dave Stone)

Firstly apologies to anyone I was late on commenting on your blog posts, the last 3 days were quite extreme as I moved my eldest daughter from Plymouth to Dublin. She has just finished her degree in animation and before getting her results got recruited by an animation company in Dublin, we’ve literally had four weeks to organise and get her moved. We are so immensely proud of what she has achieved.
So while trying to recover today I have managed to finish two more of my project, first up is Mongrol, this was quite a challenging colour scheme until I went into GW today and spotted the perfect colour needed.

Have also finished Happy Shrapnel, this one was challenging being mostly silver so I added some blue wash for shade, and blue glaze for mid tones to help break up all the silver.

Hopefully will find time to finish the last couple before the end of the month, but have a lot of actual work to do at the moment so will have to see.
Until next time have fun !
Cheers Dave

Forgotten Heroes Into Paint (Dave Stone)

Have got the first two models of what’s turning into an ever growing project into paint.
First up is Hitaki, the colour reference for this model was very limited so went with the cover art I showed at the start of the project. To get part of the comic feel around the eyes of being in shadow I used brown then black washes until I got the desired effect

Next up is Mad Ronn, who I took the reference from the same picture, On his shoulder pads I hand painted the ABC but went with simple yellow dots to represent the stars

That’s all for now, so until next time have fun !

Cheers Dave

Forgotten Heroes ABC Warriors Update (Dave Stone)

Been progressing along with the remaining robots that I want to finish for this years submission. First up is Happy Shrapnel/ Tubal Caine, just need to finish the reverse of the weapons and this one will be finished

Next up is the progress on Morrigun, the main shaping is now finished, just need to add all the extra little details that Clint drew

Have made some small progress on Blackblood, probably due to how much work Mongrol took, but don’t regret getting him finished first.

Last up is Nemesis, he won’t count towards my entry as I started him before June, but I thought I would include him in the pictures as he makes up part of the warriors story

That’s the lot for today, so until next time have fun !
Cheers Dave

Forgotten Heroes Mongrol! (Dave Stone)

as this model is the size of three individual models, I thought it deserved a post all of his own.
The character of Mongrol started off with a limited vocabulary, which then got less until the point he wouldn’t talk at all. This was until his beloved Morigunn died, at which point his mind readjusted and he was able to hold full and intelligent conversations, much to the surprise of his compatriots.

The model was built over a simple wire frame, it still has a couple of details that need to be finished, and I want to clean up some of the panels as well, but pleased with the overall look.

I used Clint Langley’s art as the basis, as I felt his rendition was the best.

and here is a scale shot with Mad Ronn for scale

Many thanks to Roger for pushing me on this one, as I would have probably held him to last, as he’s such a big daunting figure that I haven’t seen a rendition I’ve liked so far.
Until next time have fun !
Cheers Dave

ABC Warriors progress (Dave Stone)

Today I have a progress report on my forgotten heroes project, first up is Hitaki you will see he is mostly finished on the sculpt, just needs some final details and clean ups and then onto painting.

Madd Ronn is also almost finished and just needs some finishing details and clean ups

Happy Shrapnel is progressing well, need to finish the back of his head, make his two pistols, and a few more details are required.

Last of the four Morrigunn, as you can see she is the least completed so far, this is due to having to build her up in lots of layers, but any progress is good progress.

As I have almost finished the build part for the four I intended to enter into this years challenge, I have started two more, Blackblood on the left, and Mongrel on the right. I know Roger was keen on me attempting this one and should keep me busy up until the end of the challenge, but you never know I may end up making a couple more yet.

Until next time have fun !
Cheers Dave

Forgotten-heroes-part-1. (Dave Stone)

Top row Mongrel,Hammerstein, Mad Ronn, Bottom Row, Blackblood, Hitaki, Joe Pinapples
So for the first time I’ve decided to join in forgotten heroes I thought this would be the perfect time for me to realise an idea I’ve had for many years to make all the incarnations of the Meknificant Seven. For any one who doesn’t know who they are, they appeared in the comic 2000 ad as the A.B.C. Warriors, the first incarnation was just after the second Volgan war and seven robots were recruited to bring peace to mars, they included Hammerstien, Joe Pinapples, Happy Shrapnel, Mongrel, Deadlock, Blackblood, and Steelhorn who had become the mess ( a pool of liquid metal that could move and change shape at will)Happy died on Mars and the Mess became part of a much larger robot called George and remained on Mars.
The second incarnation appeared in Nemesis the warlock book four the Gothic War, and had two new recruits Mad Ronn, and Hitaki, Nemesis replaced Deadlock as he explained they were one and the same, and they had Ro-Jaws and Purity Brown join their entourage.
Their third outing saw Nemesis send them into the black hole bypass, Mad Ronn was dead and was replaced by Mek Quake, Nemesis didn’t go with them and Deadlock rejoined them, Hitaki was lost and replaced by Terri, a human who thought of herself as a robot, by the end of this adventure she was dead as humans are far more squishy than robots.

WE next saw the warriors go to the planet Hekate in the Khronicles of Khaos, here they recruited Morrigun a female robot, the team remained the same through Hellbringer, then in Third Element Morigunn died and the warriors recruited the reformed Steelhorn, (the planet spirit Medusa did this and made him her champion).
The team would remain the same through the next mission, The Shadow Warriors.
Through the next adventure The Volgan War, the warriors would leave Mek Quake at an asylum and go and recruit Zippo, while doing this Blackblood would betray the warriors and leave.
Through the next three adventures “Return to Earth” ” Return to Mars” and “Return to Ro-Busters” they would recruit Tubal Caine, who was the resurrection of Happy Shrapnel.
This brings up to date of the Graphic Novels, which is where I’m reading it from.
So far I’ve made 4 frames to work from, and are from left to right Mad Ronn, Hitaki, Happy Shrapnel, and Morrigun, as you can see these are all going to be scratch built to get just the right look I’m looking for

Note the date and time in the background to show I’m not cheating ! LOL
Wherever possible I’m going to base the models on the art of Clint Langley, the models themselves are a head taller than a standard human model, the robots have been drawn in varying heights depending on the artist, Clint draws them this height and also has the robots at different heights so will be sticking with his rendition. I may do more before the end of the month all depends on time, so we will see, so until next time have fun Cheers Dave

Patience was never on of my virtues (Dave Stone)

It’s almost as if I can’t wait for the start of June so I can get on with my entry for forgotten heroes, so to keep me going I’ve done a couple of pieces to stop me from starting. First I’ve painted Ro-Jaws to keep me busy

Obviously that didn’t slow me up much, so I thought I know I’ll make the mess to fill in the time

So much for that plan, so I’ve started to make Nemesis to fill in the time until I can start on the project, while planning all the characters.

The reason behind me bolting out of the gate, is this has been a dream project of mine for many years, and would finally like to get it done, before I lose time or enthusiasm.
Until next time have fun !
Cheers Dave
